Accommodations: There are 6 categories of rooms and suites housed in 4-, 9-, and 16-story towers connected by the lobby. Most have balconies (though here they are called by their Hawaiian name, lanais), which look out onto the ocean or the city. NOTE: Rooms in the Moderate category accommodate a maximum of 2 guests, lack balconies, and have no view. Some have queen beds instead of kings. Amenities include air-conditioning, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, complimentary high-speed internet, phones, refrigerators, hairdryers, and irons/ironing boards. Rooms have 1 king-sized bed or 2 double beds, and double-size sofa beds. NOTE: The entire hotel is smoke-free.
Dining & Entertainment: Open every night for dinner, The Ocean House offers a touch of sophistication paired with a menu of Pacific Rim dishes. The Pulehu Prime Rib and Crab Stuff Mahi Mahi are highly recommended. Steps from the beach, Shore Bird Restaurant & Bar has a casual ambience and is a favorite among guests at the hotel as well as locals. Enjoy a full bar, live music, tiki torches, and the chance to grill your own hand-carved steaks and fresh fish. A Starbucks is located in the hotel's lobby. Additional restaurants and an array of retail shops are on hand at the nearby Waikiki Beach Walk and the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.
Recreation: Gain insight to Hawaii's culture with an activities program that invites you to make leis, play the ukulele, learn to hula, and "talk story" (a Hawaiian story-telling tradition) with local residents. Beach activities have a touch of tradition as well, with canoe rides, surfing lessons, and board rentals available on-site. The 18-hole Ala Wai Golf Course has views of the ocean, mountains, and city skyline, and a driving range that's open till midnight. Excursions include historical walking tours, catamaran sailing cruises, snorkeling, and scuba diving (instruction provided). The Serenity Spa pampers guests with its fusion of local ingredients and time-tested methods of relaxation and rejuvenation. Cowabunga kids club entertains travelers ages 5-13.
